Two Victorian restaurants the only Aussie restaurants named in the world’s best

For the second year in a row, two Victorian restaurants have been named in this year’s prestigious World’s Best Restaurants list.

Attica in Melbourne and Brae in Birregurra, Victoria, have made it onto the best 51 to 100 list with both fine dining restaurants just missing out on being in the top 50.

Dan Hunter’s Brae came in at 57, which was a big jump from being placed 101 last year.

Hunter has made the list several times before: he was placed 87 in 2015 and in 2017 he made it into the top 50 by placing 44th.

Brae recently posted on Instagram, “This year just got a little bit better”.

Attica, owned by Ben Shewry came in at 97. Attica is best known for its locally sourced ingredients and dishes inspired by Shewry’s life.

The two Victorian restaurants are the only Australian restaurants to feature on the list.

The annual Worlds 50 Best Restaurants is judged by over 1000 industry experts, including chefs, food critics, publishers and restaurateurs. They release rankings separately for the top 50 and the supplementary 51 to 100.

Celebrations and awards for the World’s 50 Best Restaurants will be held and handed out at an awards ceremony at a hybrid event hosted in Antwerp, Flanders, in October.
