Three years jail for Perth pub cricket bat attacker

Stephen Douglas Muckleston, 34, was sentenced to three years and nine months jail after a brutal attack with a cricket bat left a 26-year-old fighting for his life.

The attack took place on Melbourne Cup Day in 2020 outside the Alexander Bar & Bistro in Ballajura.

The alcohol fuelled attack at the north Perth pub left victim Brandon Orr fighting for his life.

The court was told Muckleston swung the bat at Orr’s head, after the victim tried to defuse the fight.

Orr was knocked unconscious and was later placed in an induced coma with a fractured skull and bleeding on the brain.

Orr spent 16 days in hospital and three months in rehabilitation and now suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder, constant migraines and can’t work or drive.

The judge told Muckleston, a father of three with five prior assault convictions, “the victim didn’t provoke you and was trying to be the peacemaker”.

Orr was recently engaged to be married.
