Grill'd has taken aim at a local Melbourne cafe, demanding it change its logo.

The burger chain claims the logo that brands Mano’s in Doncaster is too similar to its own.

Mano’s owner received a legal letter from Grill'd in October stating the logo looked too similar. The letter came shortly after Grill’d opened a franchise opposite the café.

The local café owner told 7 News, “We were shocked to be honest, we didn’t believe that this big company was coming after a small business and trying to claim we’re infringing their brand.”

Mano's logo is a red circle with the company name written inside at an angle. It is the same format as Grill'd's logo.

Grill’d demanded Mano’s change its logo and all branding in store and online.

“We’re just a small business and we definitely don’t have the money or the legal team like they do,” Mano said.

Mano offered to invert the logo and requested Grill’d pay for the changes.

The burger giant refused, saying the similar logo led to customer confusion.

Grill’d, which has annual revenue of $298.8 million stated: “Grill’d has worked hard for 20 years to build its reputation and is entitled to protect that from others seeking to leverage off its brand.”

It said it was not trying to push out the 'little guy'.
