Ocean front Mondrian hotel slated for Gold Coast

The Gold Coast looks to be home to the new Mondrian hotel, which is set to open in 2023.

Developer Chris Vitale is bringing the esteemed hotel brand to Australia, as part of a $400 million project undertaken by Mr Vitale and his wife Letitia's Vitale Projects.

The 209 room hotel will open mid 2023, which received approval in July this year, will overlook Burleigh Heads beach.

"There are a lot of hotels north of Broadbeach, but nowhere to stay on the southern Gold Coast. That's what triggered this project," said Mr Vitale.

Mondrian Gold Coast will be 22 storeys high, with 80 metres of ocean frontage and direct beach access.

The Gold Coast hotel is one of nine new Mondrian properties planned to open across the globe.

Los Angeles-based management company sbe, which is half-owned by Accor, is at the helm of the development and also has plans to open a Mondrian in London.

Simon McGrath, chief executive of Accor Pacific said, "As soon as the borders open, we expect to see an increase in domestic tourism.

"We anticipate that domestic and international tourism will begin to normalise over the next few years."

Construction is due to begin in May/June 2021, with off the plan sales set to kick off next week.

The hotel will be operated by Accor and sbe under a 20-year management agreement.
