Woolworths backs down on liquor store development

Greater Taree City Council has had a win over its decision to refuse a Dan Murphy liquor barn development.

Councillors voted to refuse the development on the riverbank at the town's CBD entrance.

The application by Woolworths to build the store had twice been rejected by the council.

The potential social impact of the development was a major factor in its refusal.

The applicant, Woolworths, took the refusal to the Land and Environment Court.

Last week it filed a discontinuance notice which the council agreed to.

Under the discontinuance the applicant will pay the council's costs of $5,500.
