Victoria Hotel to become community hub

The Yindjibarndi Aboriginal Corporation plans to transform Roebourne's historic Victoria Hotel into a community hub.

The corporation has confirmed it is just weeks away from finalising the purchase of the hotel, which had its liquor licence suspended in 2006.

Chief executive Michael Woodley says a plan is being drafted to transform the building into a community facility with office and retail space, as well as accommodation.

Mr Woodley says the centre will cater to residents as well local businesses and industry.

"We're in the early days of our feasibility study but when we say accommodation, we're saying accommodation for our members in the workforce," he said.

"The feasibility study also takes us into the tourism arena as well, so there's room for all those to kind of capture that scope."

He says alcohol will not be served, given the problems in the past.

"No, no, that isn't the desire of the Yindjibarndi Aboriginal Corporation or its members," he said.

"That is something that we are staying well away from.

"We want to be able to do something positive with it."
