Restaurant policy removes red tape

Premier Colin Barnett's announcement today that restaurants will be able to responsibly serve liquor without a meal without the need for a complex permit system, provides clarity to patrons and simplifies red tape for the hospitality industry.

Australian Hotel's Association (WA) CEO Mr Bradley Woods said "The policy eliminates unnecessary red tape for restaurants wishing to offer a drink without a meal and removes the requirement for a special permit.

"The policy maintains the commitment to responsible service of alcohol and ensures that diners must be seated at a table while drinking in a restaurant, an important distinction between restaurants and bars, hotels and taverns. The policy also provides clarity to local government, the public and hospitality businesses," said Mr Woods.

"We look forward to working with the Barnett Government on streamlining further liquor licensing systems and red tape so as to reduce unnecessary administrative burdens but maintaining the integrity of harm minimisation and responsible service of alcohol." Mr  Woods said.
