UNE's Tattersalls Hotel sale subject of ICAC referral

The Independent Commission Against Corruption will examine the sale nearly eight years ago of a pub owned by the University of New England.

In May 2005, the University called in administrators after the University of New England Union got into financial difficulty and its assets had to be sold.

Those assets included the Tattersalls Hotel in Armidale.

A private company, called Armpub No 1 Pty Ltd, was established and contracted with the receiver to buy the pub for $2.65-million in March 2006.

The current Vice-Chancellor, Jim Barber, says UNE has now referred the sale to ICAC.

He says the University will co-operate fully with the corruption watchdog should it determine to launch an investigation.
