Fast food outlet to operate overnight

A fast food restaurant in Broken Hill has been given permission to open its doors overnight on weekends.

Hungry Jacks previously had a 24 hour drive through on weekends, but the operator says a number of people were trying to walk through and be served.

The restaurant will now be the only venue in the city opening its doors to serve food around the clock on weekends.

The Mayor, Wincen Cuy, said the new hours will be run on a trial period for six months.

"Then, everything's up for review, what will happen from there," he said.

"If there are any conditions breached they will be taken into account, and then we'll probably go back to the police to determine if there's been any incidents there.

"I think that most councillors recognise that the proprietor of Hungry Jacks is trying to do the right thing."

Councillor Cuy said the Council will review the hours after six months and discuss with police if there have been any incidents.

"It's then up to the public, and this is what everything comes back to," he said.

"Council or the police can grant these things or take them away, but it's up to the public, to make sure if they want the facilities in Broken Hill, to stay open that they actually respect the facilities for everybody else."
