E Coli found in sour cream sold in WA

Coles has recalled its self-branded Lite Sour Cream from WA stores after it was found to be contaminated with E Coli.

The potentially fatal bacteria causes vomiting, diarrhea and cramps and has previously killed weaker people, including children, the elderly or those immuno deficient.

The recall applies to the 300-gram product with a use-by date of August 2 and only affects WA stores.

"The product is being recalled as a precautionary measure due to the presence of microbial (E.coli) contamination," a statement says.

"This product may cause illness if consumed. Any consumers concerned about their health should seek medical advice.

"This recall is being undertaken to maintain the highest possible standards of safety and product quality."

Customers are being urged to return the product to any Coles store for a full cash refund.

Coles apologised for the inconvenience.
