Sydney gets a new laneway precinct.

Sydney is adopting a Melbourne style eatery.

Melbourne is renowned for its laneways filled with eateries.

And now Steam Mill Lane, Sydney’s largest little laneway, is opening in Darling Square.

The inner city precinct will feature food, drink and retail, and there will be plenty of it on offer.

And when it comes to food, Steam Mill Lane will be operating at all hours, and catering for all ages.

For those popping around first thing in the morning, there will be good coffee.

And for those looking for something late at night, there’ll be stalls selling noodles.

There will be arcade-inspired burgers and milkshakes courtesy of Melbourne’s video game-themed burger joint, 8bit which was created as a tribute to the neighbourhood fish‘n’chip shop, with vintage arcade machines and a soundtrack of hip-hop tunes thrown in for good measure.

It will be sitting right alongside new venues like for example Belles Hot Chicken. That will be the fried chook and wine shop’s third Sydney opening. It will be right next to Surry Hills’ The Sandwich Shop, bubble tea palace Gong Cha, and original vendor Toby’s Estate.

And the laneway will feature a host of new eateries.

These include BangBang, specialising in ramen and karaoke, and pork gyros vendor Gyradiko Haymarket. There’s also rumours that burgeoning food chain Fishbowl, beloved bánh mì vendor Marrickville Pork Roll and Darlinghurst’s Edition Coffee Roasters will be joining the other venues.

The laneway will also be distinctive for its art work.

Peta Kruger from Adelaide’s JamFactory has designed a permanent catenary light installation.

It will feature eight artwork pieces all sitting along the laneway. Each artwork has been inspired by nightlife cityscapes.

These will serve as vendor signs during the day and they will turn neon once the evening arrives.

For those looking for Darling Square, it’s located between Darling Harbour and Haymarket. The area has gone through a serious revamp over the past year.
