A new $15 million brewery for Brisbane

Great news for Brisbane beer drinkers.

It’s particularly important for a city that has led the way when it comes to beer drinking in Australia.

Consider these facts: just in 2017, Brisbane was the city that led Australia when it came to new brewery openings.

The numbers are striking. The Queensland capital hosted 17 new breweries alone. That’s out of a total of 49.

And now there are plans for more.

Brisbane local and passionate home brewer Shaun Lockwood is planning a $15 million beer centre.

So serious are the plans that he has lodged plans with the Brisbane City Council.

Lockwood is planning a multi-purpose centre to be established in the city’s Morningside.

But it will have a niche market

He wants to set it up as an incubator brewery for anyone who wishes to brew beer. People just like himself, home brewers.

He is targeting anyone from up-and-coming brewer to those working off contract.

Apart from that, he is also creating a space for established brands that are looking to expand their capacity. Or for that matter, any brewers who are on the hunt for a Queensland location,

In addition to that, he wants to build a space that has the potential for limited-edition brews.

These would be made for the likes of festivals and bars.

All up, the place will have a 200,000-litre capacity,

And he has plans for it to be open for 24 hours a day.

There would be plenty of capacity there, allowing up to five individual brewers per day to create their own beer.

Lockwood is enthusiastic about the benefits of the beer centre.

He says it would generate ample further growth in the craft beer sector both in Queensland and Australia-wide.

If all goes according to plan, Lockwood’s beer centre will be up and running in December.
