Venetian Republic closes before it opens

Sydney restaurateur Nino Zoccali’s hopes of launching his new Italian venture at the historic Campbell’s Stores at Circular Quay dashed.

Venetian Republic was announced as the first venue for the new $32 million development late last year, and was to include an alfresco dining area, dedicated Venetian Bollicine and Champagne bar and a 100-seat dining room.

“Unfortunately we will not be proceeding with The Venetian Republic restaurant slated to open at the Campbell’s Stores site, and due to circumstances beyond our control, have terminated our lease arrangements with Tallawolladah Pty Ltd,” Zoccali said in a statement.

Zoccali says he hopes to open the restaurant at an alternative location in the future.
