Local developer Century Group Aus will be building Australia’s first hotel under the renowned luxury St. Regis Hotels & Resorts brand in Melbourne.

The hotel will open in Flinders Bank in 2022.

Coming out of  New York City where St. Regis pioneered the Bloody Mary, St Regis is one of the world’s most revered hotel brands. It is famous for its St. Regis butler service, providing each guest with highly attentive personal service, and for its refined food and beverage experiences.

It has getaways in some of the world’s most enticing locations including Bora Bora, Bali, Mauritius and the Maldives.

And now it will call Melbourne home in four years’ time, offering 168 luxury rooms overlooking either the Yarra River or CBD skyline, including a range of specialty suites fit for presidents, sheiks and other VVIPs and guest experiences, which can include anything from drinks upon arrival to unpacking services.

St Regis is owned by Marriott International.

Marriott’s Senior Director of Hotel Development in Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific, Richard Crawford, said there was strong demand for luxury hotels in Melbourne.

“This signing is an indication of the investment community’s confidence in the Australian market, where we are seeing a growing demand for premium lodgings,” he told hotelconversation.com.

“The St. Regis Melbourne will be an outstanding addition to our strong and growing footprint in the region, where we are on track to boast the largest portfolio of upper upscale and luxury hotels and resorts, with two-thirds of the new supply pipeline.”

The St. Regis Melbourne will be located in Tower Two of the $800 million triple tower Flinders Bank project. This will see the city’s former Convention Centre site transformed into a luxury destination, comprising 650 apartments, 168 five-star hotel rooms and 2,100 square metres of retail.

Buyers are already investing in the first two towers with owner occupiers drawn to Flinders Bank’s views that overlook the Yarra River and the view down to Port Phillip Bay.
