Marco Pierre White rejects the Michelin Guide, again

Marco Pierre White has once again shown his disregard for the Michelin Guide by rejecting advances from the French restaurant guide concerning his first restaurant in Asia.

The British chef has opened a new restaurant in Singapore, The English House, which is housed in two adjoining 19th-century conservation colonial shop houses.

Billed as “Singapore’s first restaurant with rooms”, the restaurant offers Modern British cuisine – think Stuffed Cabbage in a fresh tomato sauce and shareable platters of Rib of Black Angus Beef with braised spiced tendons and jus viande.

Speaking to CAN Lifestyle, Marco explained his decision to reject the Guide’s advances. “Because I don’t need Michelin and they don’t need me,” he said. “They sell tyres and I sell food.”

Fair point really. Marco famously gave up his coveted three Michelin stars at the height of his culinary prowess in London.

And if you were wondering who actually does the judging for the esteemed Guide, a job advert has opened up on what they look for in an inspector.

The job description states: “The position requires a minimum of five years of relevant experience, being plugged into the latest restaurant openings, closings and updates, and "extensive international knowledge of ingredients, culinary techniques, cuisines and culinary fundamentals."

You’ll also be expected to be on the road three weeks a month doing a minimum of 275 inspection meals per year. But they throw in gym membership for free to keep the waistline in check.
