The Highway Hotel at Plympton is the state's best hotel - and last night won three other categories in the 2012 AHA Hotel Industry Awards for Excellence.

The judges said The Highway "showed an extremely high standard across its many facets of dining, sporting entertainment and gaming  ... as a premium benchmark."

The hotel, on a corner of Anzac Hwy and Marion Rd, also won the best bar presentation and service (metropolitan area), best outdoor or non-enclosed facility and best marketed hotel (general division) categories. It was named best overall hotel in the 2010 AHA awards as well.

"The Highway really epitomises what good pubs are all about - great food, friendly staff, a wide range of entertainment in a comfortable atmosphere," said Australian Hotels Association SA general manager Ian Horne.

Four other hotels picked up multiple awards.

  • Sebel Playford Adelaide in the city was named best deluxe accommodation and best restaurant (accommodation division).
  • Lion Hotel at North Adelaide won best restaurant (general division) and best function operation-facility (general division).
  • Stirling Hotel was judged best retail outlet (metropolitan) and best mid-range accommodation.
