Health authorities recall chocolate-coated nut treat

Victorian health authorities have announced an urgent recall of chocolate-coated sweets containing undeclared nuts.

The product contains almonds which are not listed in the ingredients.

The Chief Health Officer says the recall affects the Kanga Kandy Choc Winter Mix in 400 gram packs produced by a Ballarat company.

Dr Rosemary Lester says one child has already become ill as a result and the Health Department is worried others may have an allergic reaction.

"Consumers with an almond allergy or intolerance should not eat this product and return it to the place of purchase for a full cash refund," Dr Lester said.

The product was available throughout regional Victoria, mostly through IGA supermarkets, Foodworks and other independent retailers.
