New inner west nanobrewery for Sydney’s inner west

Sydney’s inner west has added to its craft-beer credentials with Batch Brewing Co opening a nanobrewery at the back of Public House Petersham.

“The whole idea is to create a precinct so the people who come can stay in Petersham the whole night,” said Public House general manager Gem Williamson.

Marking the second brewery for Batch, the new nanobrewery will offer experimental brews in a tasting-room environment, while standard drinks and full meals will be on offer Public House.

Unusual brews slated for the menu include peach and plum sours, as well as a Finnish-style sahti. Batch’s coffee nitro IPA will be nitrogenated rather than simply carbonated and its pickle sour will also be back on rotation, while a Black Forest cake inspired beer is also being devised, using cherries and blackberries.

Public House head chef James Elliot will oversee the food side of the partnership which will include a snack menu that showcases ingredients that would otherwise be discarded during the beer-brewing process.

“The whole area will benefit from having this collaboration,” said Williamson. “The waterfall-effect will be positive for everyone.”
