Maternity focused hotel approved for Adelaide’s Tonsley

Plans for a $14 million six-storey hotel in Tonsley that features maternity suites with nurses and midwives on hand for women who have just given birth has been given state approval.

Located in the Tonsley precinct, the hotel is expected to have 87 hotels rooms and 17 post-partum rooms, with accommodation designed for visiting professionals and new mothers. A gym and a cafe will also be built on the site.

According to the plans lodged earlier this year, the maternity suites will help mothers to “rest and care for their newborns in a well-serviced space and with visiting midwives”.

“There has been talk around the council about the need for another hotel in the area for some time,” Marion Mayor Kris Hanna told The Advertiser.

“Obviously at this site it will be especially attractive to visitors associated with the university and the hospital.”
