Gold Coast bakers announce new project for Tallebudgera

The Gold Coast couple behind Mermaid Beach’s Bam Bam Bakehouse and Chinderah’s Cubby Bakehouse have announced they are opening a new project at Tallebudgera Creek.

The new pastry café, Custard Canteen, is attached to Tallebudgera Leisure Centre, offering takeaway treats and sweets with a strong custard theme, according to owners Ben and Ursula Watts, who have shared a video of the venue’s preparation on social media.

“What we’re trying to do this time around is expose a little bit more behind the scenes, the detail and effort and arguments that goes into making magic,” Ursula Watts told the Gold Coast Bulletin.

“One of the biggest questions we get is ‘how do you do it (build a hospitality business)? What’s the story?’, so we’re trying to share that story as openly and best we can.”

“It is a small space, all the internal space is kitchen. There will be some dine in options available but being where it is by Talle Creek, we’re trying to gear the menu towards a takeaway friendly place.”

Custard Canteen is expected to open in December.
