Hotel proposal among plans for site of Tea Tree Gully Council’s civic centre

A new hotel, retail and commercial buildings could replace Tea Tree Gully Council’s civic centre at Modbury after staff are moved to its new service centre in Golden Grove.

Councillors have been shown basic designs for a possible hotel development at the Modbury site according to a report by The Messenger.

A forum entitled “Civic Centre Space and Future Opportunities” saw other plans including two five-storey residential and retail buildings, and a six-storey building in the council carpark, and two buildings with a total of 36 apartments where the civic centre currently stands.

Mayor Kevin Knight told The Messenger a future development could also include a revamp of the carpark between the civic centre and Sfera’s convention centre.

“If there is demand it could potentially be developed for many purposes that could include a hotel or commercial premises,” he said.

“I must stress that we have not been approached by anyone or any developers. This was very broadbrush stuff.”
