Event announces plans for QT Sydney expansion
Hospitality and entertainment group Event has lodged plans for a $250 million extension of QT Sydney which will add 72 new rooms and a conference centre.
The plans for the mixed-use development also include a podium with ground floor retail, a rooftop bar, an office component and a new arched entrance to the QT Hotel on George Street.
The hotel’s 13-storey extension will be located between the Gowings building, which the existing QT hotel occupies, and the State Theatre annexe. The project is being designed by Candalepas Associates.
“The QT Hotel is a very important building for Sydney,” Candalepas Architects director Angelo Candalepas told The Urban Developer.
“Over time interiors will change, refurbishments come and go, but the building will become part of the city’s grain.”
“We wanted to create something that is incredibly beautiful for George Street and for Sydney providing a contemporary building but also a well-suited companion to the Queen Victoria Building.”
