Hellenika duo to launch new steakhouse

A culinary powerhouse trio in Queensland is set to launch a new venue in Brisbane.

Simon Gloftis of Hellenika at the Calile and its Gold Coast sibling, is teaming up with his business partner in the James St Hellenika Theo Kampolis and former Nineteen at the Star Broadbeach head chef Kelvin Andrews to launch SK Steak & Oyster.

Set to open in late November, the new 110-120 seat grill restaurant will sit downstairs at The Calile Hotel precinct in Fortitude Valley.

Gloftis described the new venue as a “classic restaurant”.

“You slide into a booth, you get looked after the whole way through, you have my favourite things, which are oysters, raw stuff, prawn cocktails … and then you can have a steak or a beautiful piece of grilled fish, a nice bottle of wine, you’ll hear some good music,” he told the Courier Mail.

“It’s not an American steakhouse or Modern Australian – it’s just a classic grill and something that I want to sit in.”

The menu will offer three cuts of steak: eye fillet, scotch fillet and sirloin, with different gradings and sizes of each available, all aged for at least 30 days.

Andrews said they will let everyone “see how we do things”.

“You can come up to the kitchen, talk to the chefs and ask them how they’re cooking the steak,” he said.

There will also be a live oyster and scallop-shucking station at the front of the open kitchen and a big focus on champagne.
