New chapter for historic Eureka Hotel in Geelong

The Eureka Hotel will reopen as Westend on Little Malop St as Publican Cam O’Keefe breathes new life into one of Geelong CBD’s most historic venues.

The two-storey building has undergone a total makeover during the last two years under the eye of property owner Bill Votsaris and O’Keefe, who also operates the Centra pub.

“It has been quite the journey but we really wanted to take our time considering the size, location and heritage of the building,” O’Keefe told the Geelong Advertiser.

“It’s meant different things to different people over the years, so we wanted to get it right.”

Architect Tarryn Joyce oversaw the transformation which includes plenty of natural light on the ground floor bar and restaurant.

A fixed alfresco zone will soon span three sides of the building, while the second storey is set to open for functions next month.

“There’s a little bit of pressure but a lot of excitement that we’re the new custodians,” O’Keefe said.

“For us it’s not about trying to take over the street, it’s to bring more people into this vibrant precinct.”
