Burst water main floods Orientai restaurant in Holden Hill

A Thai restaurant in Adelaide’s Holden Hill has been forced to shut its door after a burst water main flooded its kitchen.

The water has ruined Orientai’s stock and created a 2-metre wide hole on bitumen outside the restaurant.

Orientai manager Ron Ho said water rushed into their kitchen through a back door about 5.30pm, telling the Advertiser that the water was up to his knees despite frantic efforts to keep it at bay with tea towels.

“All the stock, everything, is gone,” he said.

The restaurant staff unsuccessfully fought the flooding for 45 minutes before the main was turned off about 6.15pm.

Ho said insurance was unable to recover their revenue and wages of the night, which was $10,000 to $14,000.

“If we have to close (on Friday), that would be the biggest loss,” he said.

An SA Water spokeswoman said cleaners were arranged to help clean up the restaurant.
