Bistecca duo to open new venue The Gildey

The duo behind Sydney’s “no-phone zone” restaurant Bistecca are set to open new venue The Gidley in November.

The Gidley is based on an old- school New York steakhouse vibe, according to owners James Bradey and Warren Burns, who together own restaurant group Liquid and Larder.

The new restaurant will follow in the its sister venue’s footsteps and ban patrons from using their mobile phones while eating there.

Speaking to Delicious Sydney, Bradey said that this time they were not looking to shock people with the no phone rule.

“We have people coming to Bistecca because they know they can hand their phone over,” he said. “When we first started doing lunches we didn’t push it because in the city people are working, but what we found was people wanted to have a conversation without being disrupted. It helps people engage with who they’re with.”

Opening on King Street, The Gidley will be broken up into five main dining areas - a lounge area, main dining room, a wine room, semi-private dining room and a super-private dining room with its own bar.
