Brae named Restaurant of the Year at Good Food Guide Awards
Regional Victorian restaurant Brae has been named the Good Food Restaurant of the Year at the Good Food Guide Awards 2020, after picking up the Regional Restaurant of the Year title last year.
A total of 12 awards were handed out at the awards ceremony held in Brisbane for the first time.
New South Wales picked up a total of four awards, Victoria won three, while South Australia scored two. Queensland and Tasmania picked up one award each.
Momofuku Seibo’s Anna Ugarte-Carral took home the Josephine Pignolet Young Chef Award while Firedoor’s Lennox Hastie was named the Chef of the Year. Industry stalwart Maggie Beer was recognised with the Vittoria Coffee Legend Award.
“This year the choices were particularly challenging – we’ve reached a point in the industry where everyone is punching well beyond expectations,” said Good Food Guide editor Myffy Rigby.
“Our winners are a true reflection of the state of play in Australian dining, which is wild, diverse and thought-provoking. It’s a wonderful time to be in food.”

- Vittoria Coffee Legend Award – Maggie Beer (Barossa Valley, SA)
- Service Excellence Award – Joanna Smith, Igni (Geelong, Victoria)
- Food for Good – National Indigenous Culinary Institute
- Bar of the Year – Bar Margaux (Melbourne, Victoria)
- Sommelier of the Year – Forbes Appelby, Franklin (Hobart, Tasmania)
- Regional Wine List – FermentAsian (South Australia)
- Wine List of the Year – Yellow (NSW)
