Mansfield Tavern to be demolished for restaurant and retail precinct

The Mansfield Tavern in Brisbane is set to be razed and replaced with an urban centre for retail and dining.

Brisbane City Council's city planning committee approved the development of the 2.1-hectare site on Wecker Road.

“Developments like this ensure residents are close to the services they need and the lifestyle and leisure opportunities that they want," said Chandler ward councillor Ryan Murphy.

The three-stage plan would see the tavern demolished in favour of a new restaurant and bar along with an outdoor terrace, 20 commercial foot and retail shops, and potentially a supermarket and healthcare tenants.

“The new hub would be thoughtfully planted with trees and plants to create a welcoming space in addition to ample car parking, with 518 car parking spaces planned along with bicycle parking," said City planning chairman Matthew Bourke.

The development application was submitted by Mansfield Investment Queensland with architects Cottee Parker overseeing the design.
