New cafe and bar for Floriana Guesthouse in Cairns

A change of hands for one of Cairns most well known accommodation properties is set to see some new additions including a European-style cafe and bar.

The Floriana Guest House on the Cairns Esplanade was sold by Knight Frank agent Rob Macfarlane to local man Fintan Rafferty.

Situated on 787 sqm of land, the property has a number of well-appointed, self-contained guest rooms overlooking the waterfront, courtyard and swimming pool, according to Macfarlane.

“It is an integral part of Cairns City’s early history and a great example of high quality workmanship from the 1930s,” he told the Cairns Post.

“It is good to see the property going to a local buyer who is looking to retain the ambience of the property as well as make improvements in order to restore the property’s longevity on the Cairns waterfront.”

The new owner has plans to bring the property back to its original art deco style, increasing the number of guest room suites to 20, adding a modern commercial kitchen and the opening of a European-style café and bar, according to Macfarlane.

“The initial works are aimed for completion towards the end of 2019 including a new website,” he added.
