Port Douglas seafood restaurant shuts after 16 years

An award-winning seafood restaurant in Port Douglas has closed its doors suddenly, shocking both patrons and staff.

2 Fish has been in business for 16 years, but was forced into administration, leaving a number of its staff unable to enter the premises to retrieve their property such as kitchen knives.

The business made the announcement that it was closing on Facebook.

“It’s with great sadness that we are announcing the closure of 2Fish after 16 years,” they wrote on Facebook.

“We’d like to thank from the bottom of our hearts our loyal diners, Port Douglas community and wonderful staff.

“We’d like to wish our fellow restaurants and Port Douglas community all the best for the future.”

A spokeswoman for the business told the Cairns Post that they “are devastated by this as well”.

“We understand people are angry and upset but we’ve tried our guts out to keep this business running. It’s not a nice process to go through.”

The spokeswoman said that staff payments were up to date and they would make sure their entitlements are paid.

It has been reported that the restaurant has outstanding debts to suppliers that were still unpaid before liquidators moved in.
