Footscray’s long-standing Chinese restaurant Jim Wong up for sale

A Chinese restaurant that has been operating in Footscray since 1960 has gone on the market.

Jimmy Wong opened his namesake Chinese restaurant in Footscray in 1960, where he worked seven days, seven nights a week for 56 years.

But in May 2016, he died from head injuries after falling down the restaurant’s stairs. His wife Maryanne said she pledged to keep to restaurant going for three years, but feels now is the time to move on.

“Now it's been three-and-a-half years, so I decided to let it go," she told Good Food.

At 80-years-old, she feels is the time see “the outside world a bit”.

"The past 53 years I've been here. I haven't been anywhere else," she told Good Food.

"I am very sad leaving the place. But I am excited, thinking that I can go for a holiday, to see what I've been missing."
