Adelaide searches for global hospitality leaders for new hub

The South Australian government is looking for food, hospitality, tourism and training organisations to be part of a new foodservice and tourism hub in South Australia.

Expressions of interest have opened for organistions wanting to be part of the International Centre for Food, Hospitality and Tourism Studies that is being built in Adelaide’s central business district.

The centre will be in Adelaide’s Lot Fourteen, which aims to become the largest innovation precinct in the Southern Hemisphere.

The Australian and South Australian governments have committed $60 million towards the establishment of the International Centre for Food, Hospitality and Tourism Studies as part of a broader $551 million investment for the precinct under the Adelaide City Deal program.

South Australian Minister for Innovation and Skills David Pisoni said the state aimed to cement itself as an international leader in food, hospitality and tourism education.

“Our vision is to create a world class facility in a new, fully integrated centre that will maximise the economic potential of a CBD-based, internationally renowned food, hospitality and tourism education and research facility,” he said.

“We’re looking for leaders to work with us to establish a world-renowned facility that will be the pinnacle of Australia’s educational institutions in these growing industries.”

Expressions of Interest are being sought by Renewal SA on behalf of the State Government of South Australia for suitable companies or organisations to join in creating the centre as managers or tenants of food, hospitality and tourism education, training and research facilities, or as property developers or commercial investors.

“We have more than $2 billion worth of tourism accommodation in the pipeline for Adelaide and tourism has been identified as a super growth industry over the next 20 years,” Minister Pisoni said.

“The number of hospitality students will need to keep growing as the local, national and international demand for skilled workers increases.

“The International Centre at Lot Fourteen is a significant opportunity to attract greater numbers of students and provide them with the skills and qualifications to become leaders in this industry.”

State Government agency Renewal SA has appointed commercial real estate agents, Colliers International Adelaide, to manage the EOI process, which closes on Friday, December 6.
