Brisbane Council weighs up bid for two Mount Coot-tha venue leases

Brisbane City Council is considering awarding two separate leases to run a restaurant and cafe on Mount Coot-tha to Mantle Group-owned Jimmy's on the Mall for the next two decades.

Located in two buildings held in trust by the council on behalf of the state government, the leases on the Summit Restaurant and Kuta Cafe expired in August.

The council's evaluation team favoured the bid by Jimmy's on the Mall over rival bids from Bellissimo Coffee Pty Ltd and Table of Four Pty Ltd as it "provided a clear vision statement that was considerate of the iconic nature of the site" and "demonstrated proven success and experience" in high-volume restaurants.

The bid by Jimmy's on the Mall also "proposed innovation including new build and design for the cafe at no cost to council".

Under the terms, Jimmy's on the Mall would pay a base rent of $600,000 a year to the council for the cafe, and $400,000 for the restaurant, or 7 per cent of its annual turnover - whichever was highest.

Mantle Group also owns the Pig 'N' Whistle in the CBD and the Charming Squire in South Bank.
