Sydney boy hospitalised after suffering serious burns at teppanyaki restaurant

A five-year-old boy is expected to undergo surgery after suffering serious burns while celebrating a birthday with his family at a teppanyaki restaurant in Sydney’s south west.

The boy was dining at the restaurant in Narellan when he was engulfed in flames after a chef sprayed oil on the hot plate.

The flames were put out by the boy’s family with help from restaurant staff but he suffered burns to his face, arms and hands.

The boy was taken to Westmead Children's Hospital along with his father, who also suffered second degree burns.
