Proposed resort for the Bellarine to boost tourism

A Melbourne developer has submitted plans to the City of Greater Geelong for a new resort on the Bellarine.

The Portarlington Resort would feature accommodation rooms, conference and event facilities including a ball room, a restaurant, bar, pools, gymnasium, spas and a sauna.

Contra Constructions says if approved, construction of the resort would take about 30 months.

The developer describes the tourism sector as vital for the North Bellarine economy, saying the region would benefit from resort’s “capacity to attract longer staying tourists”.

The proposal for the “large complex” has been designed to have a minimal impact on the landscape, and will “not be very visible from the main road”, according to the developer’s website.

The main body of the building will be situated at the Pigdon St end of the site, the pools and wellness facilities at the northern end and the villa units will be on the eastern slope of the site.
