Sydney’s Circular Quay set for new Italian mega venue
A four-storey venue catering for up to 450 people will open next year at Circular Quay.
The Italian themed venue is being developed by global restaurateur Scott Brown who has taken the old wool store in new mega redevelopment Quay Quarter Lanes.
“The ground floor will have an all-day eatery with an on-site bakery and flour mill,” he told Good Food. “The next level up will be a more refined restaurant.”
Brown is returning to Sydney after operating some of New Zealand’s top restaurants through the Hip Group.
He is selling his stake in Hip Group to focus on the new Sydney venue which will include an event space on the top floor.
More than 20 new restaurants, cafes, stores and bars are planned to open as part of the Quay Quarter Lanes development which is slated to open in September 2020.
A new public square at Circular Quay is also in the works, as the state government pushes ahead with plans to revamp the waterfront precinct.
Developer Lendlease has lodged a development application with the City of Sydney council to construct the three components that will make up the $18 million plaza project.
Lendlease will build the public square, community building and canopy artwork then hand the space over to the City of Sydney as a public asset.
Part of the plans include a public building that will be used as a cafe, meeting or gallery space. The project is expected to be completed in 2022.
