Fresh hope for small Qld town with new pub set for 2020

A new hotel being built in Morven’s main street is set to bring a new lease of life to the remote Queensland town.

To be known as Sadleir's Waterhole, the new hotel is slated to open in mid-2020.

Replacing the Morven Hotel Motel that burnt down in April 2016, the new pub is being resurrected by a group of eight local families who has acquired the land and liquor licence.

"The community has suffered during such a prolonged drought so we are very excited to be moving forward," spokeswoman Louise Winten told Queensland Country Life.

The Morven Hotel Group said building work is expected to start early in the new year. Unfortunately, a baker’s oven that survived the old pub’s fire cannot be used.

"We will be saving the big oven doors and the bricks though, which we might incorporate in a pizza oven or something like that down the track," Winten told Queensland Country Life.
