‘Business as usual’ despite car smashing into Adelaide pub

A car has smashed into an Adelaide pub that was just days away from celebrating its 10th anniversary.

A Toyota sedan crashed into the front wall of the Southwark Hotel in Thebarton causing extensive damage.

According to witnesses, the elderly driver hit the tram tracks in the centre of the road before veering into the pub.

Owner Verity Ferguson told The Advertiser she heard an “almighty bang”.

“I saw all this dust rising and I thought, ‘oh my god the pub’s on fire’,” she said.

“There’s been times when the trucks that come around here fly around and we often say ‘one will come through the door one day’.

“It’s just difficult before Christmas, and hotels are tough at the best of time, particularly at the moment.”

Ferguson said it will still be “business as usual” while repair works continue.
