New $250m hotel in Sydney to begin construction in 2020

Construction on a $250 million, 300-key hotel in Sydney's mid-town will begin next year.

Joint venture developers Rebel Property and Everest Property are looking for final approval and a builder for the hotel after acquiring the site for $60 million in July.

Architecture firm Crone will design the four-star hotel which will be built out of recycled brick as a tribute to the former Brickfield Hill brickworks.

The hotel will feature a transparent podium that will house mixed-use businesses such as gyms, restaurants and co-working space in the upper floors.

The hotel's new private laneway will also include an installation by Chris Fox.

Rebel Property managing director Allen Linz said Sydney has “an insatiable appetite for quality, interesting hotel products in the four-star range”.

The project is now expected to begin construction by the end of 2020, with completion earmarked for 2023.
