Google joins crowded online food ordering sector

Customers can now order food from fast food chains including Domino’s, Boost Juice and Guzman y Gomez for pickup directly from Google Search or Google Maps.

The new service launched this week also includes local restaurants via HeyYou. Home delivery is available from Pizza Hut and participating Domino’s restaurants.

A search on Google for participating restaurants will include an “Order Takeaway” or “Order online” button. You can then select the time you want to pick it up and pay through Google Pay.

The latest service is yet another entry into the crowded and highly competitive food ordering market, with Menulog, Deliveroo, DoorDash and Easi all operating in Australia.

The main difference is that Google does not have its own delivery drivers, for now at least.
