'Cook for the Bush' raises funds for bushfire communities

Some of Sydney's best restaurant talent came together last week to raise funds for the Red Cross bushfire appeal.

Organised by Nomad chef Jacqui Challinor, the Cook for the Bush event was held at Nomad and other Surry Hills venues with more than 35 chefs pitching in.

"For weeks, I've been wondering what I could to do help with the bushfire emergency, so on Sunday night I started texting people and the response was overwhelming," Challinor told Good Food. "Now it's just a question of how big we can go."

The event followed a fire at Nomad in September that forced the restaurant to relocate to the former Longrain site.

"I was humbled after the [Nomad] fire by how much the restaurant community reached out to help us," Challinor told Good Food. "This is just like that, but on steroids."
