Hemp on the menu at new Gold Coast cafe

A new café on the Gold Coast is loading its menu with hemp inspired items including coffee brewed on hemp milk.

Grounded in Miami is looking to change people’s view of the cannabis by-product.

Owner Zeus Stellas said a combination of two things was behind the opening, including educating people about the benefits of consuming the plant extract.

“We wanted a place where people could hang out and understand what we’re providing,” he told the Gold Coast Bulletin.

“I think there’s also a lack of quality, organic, seasonal cafes on the Gold Coast.”

Stellas, who opened the café with his partner Natasha Kasper, said the demand for hemp was rocketing since legislation changes three years ago that allowed hemp to be added to food.

“Once the laws changed, I imported 1000kg of hemp seed and 1000kg of hemp protein powder,” he told the Gold Coast Bulletin. “I put my head in a bit deep, but I believe in the product.”
