Employee of collapsed Cairns hospitality firm straight back in the game

An employee of a collapsed Cairns hospitality labour hire company has registered a new company and applied for a fresh labour hire licence.

Northern Staff Pty Ltd trading as Staffing Solution was wound up late last year after owing creditors half a million dollars.

Liquidators were appointed after the company accumulated a $426,000 debt with the Australian Taxation Office.

Employee Brian Forde registered a new company called Far North Staff Pty Ltd one month before Northern Staff was wound up. Two months later Far North Staff applied for a labour hire licence, according to records from the Queensland Office of Industrial Relations.

Speaking to the Cairns Post, Forde said he hadn’t broken any rules.

“I will be doing stocktakes and stuff that doesn’t involve any other person,” he said.

The application from Far North Staff is still “being assessed”, according to a spokesman from the Office of Industrial Relations.
