Sydney pub baron nabbed drink-driving

Sydney pub baron Phillip De Angelis has been caught drink driving despite being ordered not to drink or take drugs as part of an 18-month intensive corrections order set by the NSW District Court in March.

De Angelis avoided jail for repeatedly assaulting his former girlfriend Sydney socialite Janelle "Nellie" Tilley on multiple occasions at their homes in 2015 and 2016.

But he could now be jailed for drink-driving after being stopped in Surry Hills with a blood-alcohol reading of 0.086. He told police he only drunk two schooners of full strength beer.

His lawyer Rebecca McMahon entered pleas of guilty to drink-driving and using a mobile phone, with the matter being adjourned for sentencing on March 11.

Publican Arthur Laundy is the uncle of De Angelis, who has a previous drink driving conviction from 2013.
