Police charge woman over Adelaide hotel fire

A woman has been charged with arson over a blaze at the Ambassadors Hotel in Adelaide's CBD.

About 30 patrons were evacuated from the hotel after the fire took hold in the early hours of the morning. Firefighters managed to contain the fire to the outside of the building, which still resulted in about $250,000 worth of damage.

It is believed the couches located in the laneway behind the hotel were deliberately set alight.

Police charged a 48-year-old Birkenhead woman with arson, after police arrested her for unrelated matters before connecting her with the fire.

"We're just asking anybody who may have seen some suspicious activity in the area around 2:20am this morning [January 22] to contact Crime Stoppers," said SA Police Senior Constable Kate Dawson.
