Plans lodged for $80m Shell Cove hotel

Plans for a $80 million hotel at the Shell Cove marina have been lodged with Shellharbour City Council.

Developers Covecom Pty Ltd have unveiled their plans for the development which includes 117 rooms, 32 serviced apartments and 42 residential apartments.

The plans saw a height increase from nine to 11 storeys, but the final building will be just over 2m higher than the 40m limit due to the hotel roof plant room and lift overruns.

Shellharbour Mayor Marianne Saliba said she did not believe height would be an issue for the development, despite earlier concerns from residents over their waterfront views.

"Under the original concept plan, the hotel was actually running horizontally along the waterfront, but it's now facing a different way, facing vertically, so it's blocking less of the view than it originally was," she told the Illawarra Mercury.

"It's a whole new ball game for us in Shellharbour, because it means we can hold big events, conferences and functions.”

Local hospitality group Oscars Hotels will own and operate the Shell Cove complex, with construction slated for October this year pending approval. The hotel is hoped to be open in 2022.
