Gold Coast restaurant Loki to close as owners prepare new venture

A Gold Coast restaurant will shut its doors just two months after opening in the former site of one of the city’s most popular venues.

Restaurant and bar Loki opened in place of Hellenika in the two-storey building at Nobby Beach on November 30 last year.

But a report in the Gold Coast Bulletin has revealed the restaurant will close this Sunday, with all its employees to lose their jobs.

An email leaked to the Gold Coast Bulletin says the final day of trade will be February 2.

“I am not going to beat around the bush here. We have decided to close Loki,” the email reads.

“After this, Loki will cease to exist and so, unfortunately, will all contracts of employment. All entitlements will be paid in full.”

The email said the Mediterranean-themed restaurant was “tracking in the right direction” with Loki owner Brodie Millwood and his team “proud of what we have achieved in a very short period of time”.

In a statement to the Bulletin, Millwood said the decision was “not taken lightly”.

“However, deep inside we have a passion for another concept … that perhaps in hindsight we should have run with to begin with,” he said.

“We cannot wait to unveil our new project.”
