Plans for interstate expansion as Byron Bay food collective The Farm goes to market

Byron Bay food collective The Farm has been put up for sale with price expectations of over $20 million.

The family behind the Oroton fashion empire launched the 31 hectare collective of fresh food producers and eateries five years ago.

The Three Blue Ducks restaurant is one of its tenants, along with a mix of other shops and cafes selling local produce drawn from the surrounding orchards and vegetable gardens.

The working farm also has free roaming heritage-breed pigs, Scottish Highland cattle and chickens, along with an education centre.

The Farm attracts more than 500,000 visitors last year, with the businesses generating about $1 million in annual rental income for owners Tom Lane, the grandson of Oroton founder Boyd Lane, and his wife Emma.

Lane said he wanted sell a stake in the property to a strategic investor in order to expand the concept to Queensland and Victoria.

“There is a global movement in people wanting to understand more about their food,” he said.
