Gold Coast cafe plans to expand

Gold Coast cafe Hot Shott is looking to double its seating area after acquiring the property next door at the Tedder Ave retail and dining strip in Main Beach.

Speaking to the Gold Coast Bulletin, owners Jenna Finch and Kellie Rolfe said they had seen the precinct struggle since they opened in 2016.

When the owners of the site next door put it up for sale they took the opportunity to put an offer in and expand.

“We currently sit 74 people,” Finch told the Gold Coast Bulletin. “On New Year’s Day we seated (a turnover of) 580 people. That was our record day.

“Now it’s going to be a lot more roomy, people don’t have to wait for a table. It’s all about improving and going with the business.”

Undeterred by the sight of seeing more than a dozen eateries and restaurants closing at the retail and dining strip, the duo say business at their café has always been strong.

“We had a line most days, even during the week, to wait for a table,” Finch told the Gold Coast Bulletin.

The two met at the local Versace hotel, and have brought a 5-star ethos to their own venture, she said.

“We have an understated five-star service in place, with the way we’ve trained the kitchen and the staff,” she said.
