Broome resort to be reborn under new owners Trepang
The 72-room Kimberley Sands Resort could be back in business by as early as May after a deal was secured with the NT’s Trepang Hotel Group.
Former resort operators Cable Beach Operations collapsed in January under a $4.5 million debt to creditors, with administrators Pitcher Partners selling the former adults only resort for an undisclosed sum to Trepang, who was Cable Beach’s largest creditor, owed about $2.5 million
Headed by John ‘Foxy’ Robinson, Trepang’s portfolio includes the Kimberley Grande Resort in Kununurra and the Rydges Palmerston in Darwin.
The new owners want to up spruce the hotel up and ditch the adults-only policy before reopening in a few months.
Trepang commercial manager Ainslie MacLean told the Brisbane Times they will be “resuscitating the property back to its former glory”.
"We're looking forward to bringing it back to life for the people of Broome and the tourists of Broome, also working with the local suppliers," she said.
"At the moment our focus is on getting a really good product up and running again. We have to open May 1 to meet the market but we're hoping to open before then.”
